What does a Steamfitter-Pipefitter do?
Steamfitter-Pipefitters are involved in the making, repair and maintenance of piping systems. The pipes can carry a variety of materials from water and steam to fuel used in heating.
- Analyse specifications to determine the type of pipe needed and how the task will be carried, out creating detailed sketches of how the work will be completed
- Measure, cut, assemble and install pipes and the related equipment
- Test the pipe systems for leaks

How do I become a Steamfitter-Pipefitter?
To enter the an apprenticeship you must have the leave high school with the following subjects
- 65% in English 13
- Pure or Applied Math 10
- Science 10 or equivalent
- Or pass the entrance exam
Once you have these grades you can begin your apprenticeship training by:
1. Finding a company willing to take you on as an apprentice
2. Register with AAIT (Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training)
3. Apprentice for 3 years, which includes 1500 hours of on the job training and 8 weeks of technical training at school each year.
4. Take the interprovincial Red Seal exam to become a registered Steamfitter-Pipefitter
5. Now you can work almost anywhere in Canada!
